Clearing a packed jobsite after Hartford’s winter thaw
After a hard New England winter, we got a call from a crew working near Hartford Hospital in the North East neighborhood. The lot had that early-spring mix of frozen mud, broken pallet wood, torn roofing, and old drywall stacked where plows had left slush all season. I remember the bite in the air that morning and the way every footstep sank a little. Brenda Hayes started Charter Oak Dumpsters in 2005 after seeing how much debris Hartford sites were leaving behind, and this one had the same problem in a tighter space. The crew needed the mess gone fast so they could keep framing without tripping over piles.
We rolled in with a dumpster sized for tight city access and set it where our truck could still swing without blocking the work zone. Our crew loaded the heavier wood first, then the soaked sheetrock and mixed debris so the bin stayed balanced and safe under OSHA rules. We keep an eye on Hartford’s older streets and pre-1920 buildings because one bad placement can shut a site down for the day. Once we cleared the last pile, the framing crew had room to move materials and the contractor could get back to work without wrestling the cleanup. We haul it away, so you don't have to worry.
I called Brenda’s team because the site was jammed, and they cleared it before my crew lost another morning.
